Studio History

Recording Studio – A brief history

In our home, deep in the mountains of San Antonio De Los Altos, Venezuela, the studio began as a sort of playground where we would play and dream about music. We started back in 1985 with an old Yamaha CP-35 electronic piano, which was handed down to us by our treasured friend, composer and Venezuelan Orchestral conductor, Juan Carlos Nuñez. The piano was infinitely valuable to us. We had a name for it: "El Muerto" (semantically meaning "The Coffin"). This moniker was used due to the heaviness and dark black color of the instrument. Juan Carlos had fixed a post card with a sculpted hand by the French sculptor Rodin to the body of "El Muerto". The hand served as a symbol and inspiration. It reminded us that hands could be used for destruction or for creation. Soon after we received "El Muerto" we bought a Porta-studio with four-track capability and a Shure 58 microphone. With these humble tools and our flutes, guitars, drums, and voices, the studio was born!  Our playground attracted a lot of friends from music, art, theatre, and poetry. We started creating music that was unanticipated. Suddenly we were making music for theatre, movie soundtrack, videos, jingles (believe it or not), meditation music, and even for an art exposition! In 1996 we relocated to South Florida and found ourselves somewhere between the cow pastures of Davie and the glowing neon lights of South Beach. The studio and our music have taken on a life of its own. Our studio is now a thriving workplace where we create, record, and transform dreams into reality for others and ourselves. The musical gear of our studio has gone through a tremendous metamorphosis; "El Muerto" has morphed into a bank of digital electronics and recording equipment which is capable of producing the extremely high quality sound that has become today's standard.

Saraswati is a Hindu goddess of learning. She is the goddess of speech (Vac), the Flowing-One. She represents the union of power and intelligence from which organized creation arises. Saraswati posseses all the learnings of the the Vedas, scriptures, dancing, musical power and poetry. She revealed language and writing to man.

Saraswati is a gift from our friend Dexter Raghunanan, Tabla player with Shakuntala,  (2004).
